Skincare Myths Revealed! Are you still doing these ineffective maintenance?
Okay, let's get real. Your bathroom shelves are stacked with skincare products-soaps, toners, masks, creams-perhaps enough to open a small skincare boutique. Every morning and evening, you dutifully follow a multi-step skincare routine, patting, tapping, and applying as if your face were the Sistine Chapel.
Yet ...... Your skin doesn't glow like a Korean drama star. Those stubborn pimples still pop up, your pores are still having a party, not to mention that dry spot on your cheek. So, what's the cause, really? Could it be - you've been doing it wrong all along? Or worse, those “miracle” products you spent half your paycheck on actually ...... useless?
Don't stress, skincare is confusing, and it's easy to fall into the trap of skincare myths with 17-step skincare routines recommended by beauty gurus, flashy packaging that promises eternal youth, and your best friend swearing by a random method she found on TikTok.
Today, we're busting some of the biggest, most persistent skincare myths. So put down the overpriced serums, grab a cup of tea, and let's separate fact from fiction once and for all.
It's not the more expensive the product, the better the results
Raise your hand if you've ever walked into a luxury beauty store, seen a small bottle with a jaw-dropping price tag on it, and thought to yourself, “This must be liquid gold for my face.”
Sure, some luxury brands have great formulas, but the high prices often come from flashy packaging, celebrity endorsements, and clever marketing rather than actual skincare benefits. a $10 niacinamide serum works just as well, if not better, than a $200 serum.
Why? Because skincare isn't about how fancy a product looks, it's about the ingredients and the formula. Next time you want to splurge on a diamond-encrusted cream, flip the bottle over and read the ingredients carefully.
Active ingredients like hyaluronic acid, retinol, vitamin C, and peptides are what make a truly quality product, not the price tag. Your wallet will thank you, and your skin probably will too.

Are natural skincare products always better?
Ah, the word “natural.” It sounds so healthy, so safe, so ...... Instagrammable. brands label it “100% natural” and “organic,” and suddenly we imagine ourselves frolicking in the grass while slathering an avocado mask on our faces.
But here's the reality: not everything “natural” is good for your skin, and not everything “chemical” is bad. For example, lemon juice and baking soda may seem like harmless kitchen staples, but what about using them on your skin?
They can upset your pH balance, causing irritation and giving you more problems. Instead, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and even retinol-all “chemical” sounding names-are absolute skincare heroes. The main takeaway?
Natural doesn't automatically mean better, and chemicals aren't always the enemy. What matters is whether the product is scientifically proven, formulated properly, and suitable for your skin type. So don't be afraid of the word 'chemical' on a product label - it could be exactly what your skin needs.
Oily skin doesn't need a moisturizer?
The biggest misconception ever! If you don't wear moisturizer because you have oily skin, stop right there. Yes, I am talking about you! Oily skin needs moisturizer just as much as dry skin. In fact, skipping moisturizer can make your skin even oilier.
Plot twist, right? Here's why: when your skin feels dry or dehydrated, it goes into panic mode and secretes more oil to compensate. The result? A greasy face that rivals pizza. The solution? Use a light-textured, non-comedogenic moisturizer that hydrates your skin without clogging your pores.
Gel or water-based moisturizers are your best friend. So, stop making excuses! Grab a moisturizer and let your skin drink it all in. Trust me, your face won't turn oily overnight.

You can shrink your pores?
Sorry, science says no. Pores. The eternal nemesis of flawless selfies. We've all seen those magical creams and serums that claim to “shrink” pores and take your mind off things. But the truth is, you can't shrink pores. Pore size is largely determined by genetics, and while you can't actually shrink pores, you can reduce their appearance.
How? Keep your pores clean and clear. Salicylic acid, a BHA (beta-hydroxy acid), is effective in unclogging pores and preventing pore dilation. Retinoic acid also boosts cellular metabolism and keeps skin smooth.
Don't forget sun protection! Sun exposure weakens the skin's elasticity, and over time pores become enlarged. So if you want your pores to look refined and inconspicuous, slather on some sunscreen and stick to a good cleansing routine.
The more steps, the better the results?
Who decided that a skincare routine needed to be 12 steps long? Somehow our skincare routine went from a simple cleanse-moisturize-SPF to an Olympic-level ritual that takes up half our morning. Double cleanse, serum, ampoule, sheet mask, jade roller ...... Just thinking about it makes me tired.
In fact, layering too many products can irritate the skin, clog pores, and even counteract the effectiveness of certain active ingredients. Instead, focus on the essential steps: cleanse, treat (serum or active ingredient), moisturize and protect (use SPF for daytime).
If your skin feels fancy, you can certainly do an occasional mask or exfoliation. But don't overdo it. Sometimes less is more.

Is daily exfoliation good for your skin?
Exfoliating feels great, doesn't it? Removing dead skin and revealing smooth, glowing skin - it's downright addictive. But over-exfoliating is one of the fastest ways to damage the skin barrier. The skin barrier is like a protective shield that keeps moisture in and bad things (like bacteria and pollutants) out.
Excessive exfoliation can damage this protective film, leaving your skin dry, irritated, and prone to acne. So how often should you exfoliate? Two to three times a week is enough. Gentle chemical exfoliators, such as AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) and BHA, are usually better than harsh physical scrubs. Treat your skin well, not with sandpaper.
At the end of the day, skincare is all about finding what works for you. Not your favorite influencer, not your best friend, and not the latest viral TikTok trend.
Don't fetishize overpriced miracle creams, don't overthink every step, and most importantly, don't put too much pressure on yourself in the pursuit of “perfect” skin - perfect skin doesn't exist! If you keep everything simple, focus on the active ingredients, and most importantly, stick to it, your skin will thank you.
Next time you see a product that promises to eliminate pores, reverse aging overnight or make your face glow like a disco ball ...... just smile, nod, and walk away. So, are you guilty of any of these skincare sins? Don't worry, we've all been there.
Now go wash your face, put on some sunscreen, and confidently show off your natural glow. Your skin has the power to do this and so do you!
