A great selection of authentic and delicious Thai food!
If you're a foodie, or just simply love to try different countries' cuisines, you can't go wrong with Thai food! As the leader of the Southeast Asian culinary scene, Thai food is known for its rich spices, layers of sweet, sour and spicy flavors, and superb value for money.
Whether it's street food or fine dining, your taste buds will experience an adventure like no other. Today, I'm going to show you some of Thailand's authentic dishes that are guaranteed to make your mouth water!
Tom Yum Goong - the ceiling of hot and sour seafood soup!
If I had to pick a dish that best represents Thailand, Tom Yum Goong soup would be at the top of the list. Spicy, sour and appetizing with a strong aroma, this soup is usually made with fresh shrimp and seasoned with lemongrass, lemongrass, southern ginger, Thai lime, fish sauce, chili and other spices.
When you take a sip, the whole person is blown away by the unique flavor of the lemon's refreshing aroma, then the spicy taste rushes up, and finally a hint of sweet aftertaste.
In Thailand, you can get an authentic bowl of tom yum kung at a roadside stall for a few dollars, or you can try the deluxe version at a fancy restaurant, which may also have lobster or other seafood in it. No matter where you are, tom yum kung is a dish you must try!
Pad Thai - Who doesn't love fried noodles?
Pad Thai is probably one of the most recognizable staples in Thailand, and almost no one, tourist or local, can resist this delicacy. It's simple but complex in flavor, and the key lies in the sauce. It's usually made with river noodles, egg, tofu, shrimp or chicken, with fish sauce, sour citrus juice, palm sugar and crushed peanuts, and topped with bean sprouts and chives to give it a richer flavor.
The dish tastes slightly sweet with a hint of sourness, a touch of freshness and a little bit of spiciness, a total taste bud fest. The best part is that it's available everywhere in Thailand, whether it's a night market, roadside stall or restaurant, you can easily find this dish. And it's affordable, too - you can get a big plate for a few dollars!

Green Curry - Overly spicy and flavorful!
There are many types of curry in Thailand, and the most famous is green curry. It's colored by a mixture of green chilies and spices and has a stronger and spicier flavor than Indian curry. Green curry is usually served with chicken, eggplant, coconut milk, and nine-layer pagoda, and it's so rich and sweet with a hint of coconut milk in your mouth that it's almost addictive!
Green curry is usually served with rice or rice vermicelli, and although it is spicy, you can't stop eating it. If you're not a big fan of spicy food, you can tell the owner “Mai Ped” (Thai for not too spicy) in advance so that they may be a little more lenient.
Mango Sticky Rice - the king of desserts!
After a spicy Thai meal, you'll want something sweet! Definitely one of the most popular desserts in Thailand, Mango Sticky Rice is simple yet irresistible. It's made by steaming sticky rice, mixing it with coconut milk and sugar, topping it with a whole ripe mango, and finally sprinkling it with a bit of crunchy crushed soybeans or sesame seeds.
This dessert tastes soft and sweet, and the perfect combination of the fresh flavor of the mango and the richness of the coconut milk is a match made in heaven. And in Thailand, the quality of mango is very good, sweet and juicy, and it is even better when served with sticky rice! You can easily find this dessert at night markets or cafes.
Thai Milk Tea - Orange milk tea, have you ever had it?
Thai Milk Tea is different from ordinary milk tea, it is orange in color! This is mainly due to the fact that it uses a black tea that is unique to Thailand, then adds condensed milk and sugar, and finally crushed ice, and a cup of super sweet and tea-scented Thai Milk Tea is born.
This milk tea tastes more flavorful than regular milk tea, and the tea flavor is heavier and sweeter, but Thai people love this super sweet taste. If you don't like it too sweet, you can tell the store in advance “Waan Noi” (Thai: less sugar). On a hot Thai street, a glass of cold Thai milk is the best thing you can do!

Coconut Ice Cream - cool and refreshing!
The weather in Thailand is hot all year round, so some ice cream is definitely a good choice. Coconut ice cream in Thailand is very special, usually served in a real coconut shell and sprinkled with some crushed peanuts, glutinous rice grains or corn kernels. When you take a bite, the natural sweet flavor of coconut immediately fills your mouth and is super refreshing!
Not only is this dessert delicious, it's also cheap - you can get a large cup for about $2-3 at a Thai market or night market, so it's well worth a try.
Moo Ping - Affordable and delicious street BBQ!
If you love barbecue, then Thai kebabs are definitely your favorite. moo ping (grilled pork kebabs) is one of Thailand's most classic snacks, where the pork is marinated in fish sauce, garlic, spices, and coconut milk before being slowly grilled over charcoal, making it flavorful and super tender to eat!
Kebab stalls can be found everywhere in Thailand's night markets, and a kebab is a bargain at around $1 USD. Paired with a bag of sticky rice (Thai people love to eat kebabs with sticky rice), it makes for a perfect street food meal!
Thai food is not only varied, but also inexpensive, so whether you like sweet and sour or are partial to sweets, you'll find your favorites here. When traveling to Thailand, don't just eat the buffet in the wine store, make sure you go into the night markets and small restaurants and try these most authentic Thai dishes!
