Is rhinitis a problem with the nose, or is the immune system "on strike"?
In spring, some people are awakened by the fragrance of flowers, while others are awakened by sneezes. With stuffy noses, sneezing, and runny noses, many people are helplessly fighting "rhinitis" with tissue boxes.
But have you ever thought: Is this capricious and lingering rhinitis really a "sick" nose? Or is there something wrong with the body's immune system, quietly "going on strike" behind the scenes?
Let's uncover the truth behind rhinitis, which is not just as simple as "a little temper of the nose".
Rhinitis is not just "a moody nose"
First, let's take a brief look at what rhinitis is. Rhinitis is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa, and common symptoms include nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and decreased sense of smell. It sounds like there is something wrong with the nose, but the problem is far more than that.
Especially allergic rhinitis, it is not caused by cold viruses, but the body's "overreaction" to certain allergens (such as pollen, dust mites, animal hair, etc.). Simply put, your immune system "misjudged" the enemy, took harmless things as threats, and set off an unnecessary "battle" - this is the root cause of the symptom outbreak.
In other words: the nose is just the "frontline battlefield", and the commander behind it - the immune system, is the real core of the problem.
Rhinitis is far more than just an inflammation of the nose
Many people's understanding of rhinitis is still at the stage of "catching a cold and having an uncomfortable nose". In fact, rhinitis is a general term, which refers to the inflammatory response of the nasal mucosa after being stimulated by various reasons.
It has various types, including allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinitis, sinusitis, vasomotor rhinitis, etc. Among them, the incidence of allergic rhinitis has soared in recent years and has become a "national-level" chronic disease.
But the question is: Why do we live in the same city and breathe the same air, but some people are safe and sound, while others "sneezing constantly" every year? The real key is not in the nose, but in the "sensitive response" of the immune system.

Who regards pollen as an enemy? "Misjudgment" of the immune system
We inhale various components in the air every day, such as dust, pollen, animal dander, mites... For most people, these things are passed by the body as "harmless things". But for patients with allergic rhinitis, the body activates "level one combat readiness" like an alarm bell.
For example: others see a kitten and think it's "so cute"; but your immune system shouts: "Dangerous creatures! Expel immediately!"-So, immune factors such as histamine, white blood cells, and mast cells are released, triggering a series of inflammatory reactions. Runny nose, sneezing, and nasal congestion are actually your body "fighting"!
And it is the immune system that fights this "wrong war".
That's why it is said that allergic rhinitis is actually a "misjudgment" and "overreaction" of the immune system. Your nose is just a "battlefield", and the real "commander" is deep in the immune system.
Is repeated rhinitis the result of "internal war in the body"?
Why does rhinitis always recur? The root cause is that the "sensitive nerves" of the immune system will not change easily.
Especially in spring and autumn, when the seasons change, when the air quality decreases, when there is high pressure or when the work and rest schedule is disordered, the human immune system is prone to disorder, which is like an exhausted "security team" that overreacts to things but cannot defend against real enemies.
So we often hear:
"My nose gets blocked when I use the air conditioner";
"My nose starts to run when the seasons change";
"Eating hot pot can also cause rhinitis to relapse";
These are actually telling you: the body is undergoing an internally unbalanced "immune storm", and the nose is just the first "victim".

Only treating the nose without adjusting the constitution will only make it worse?
Many people treat rhinitis by "being ruthless" with the nose: nasal drops, anti-allergic drugs, surgery, hot compresses, sprays... It does work in the short term, but why doesn't it last long?
The reason is simple: it treats the symptoms but not the root cause.
If you don't start with the immune system to adjust the constitution, but simply relieve the symptoms of the nose, it is equivalent to "treating the head for a headache and the foot for a foot pain". When the immune system "misjudges" again next time, rhinitis will come back and may even get worse.
Long-term use of certain hormone drugs may also cause "secondary damage" such as nasal mucosal atrophy and dependent rhinitis.
If you want to really get rid of rhinitis, you have to "control the immune system"
Since the problem lies in the immune system, we have to start from the source.
The following aspects are the key to adjusting the immune system and truly improving rhinitis:
1. Strengthen physical fitness and improve "immune elasticity"
Through a reasonable work and rest schedule, a balanced diet, and proper exercise, let the immune system learn to "self-repair" and "self-manage". Live a rhythmic life so that the body will not "disrupt the rhythm".
2. Avoid allergens and reduce "misjudgment opportunities"
For example, people who are allergic to pollen should reduce going out in spring and wear masks; families who are allergic to dust mites should use anti-mite bedding and wash and dry frequently. Reducing exposure means less "alarms".
3. Seek TCM conditioning to adjust the constitution
TCM says that "weakness leads to evil". For rhinitis, it is often diagnosed as lung qi deficiency, spleen qi deficiency, kidney yang deficiency and other types. Through TCM conditioning, acupuncture, diet therapy and other methods, the constitution can return to balance, and the immune system will also be stable.
4. Emotional management, don't let stress "break through" the defense line
Long-term mental stress will make the immune system more "sensitive and fragile". Emotional ups and downs may also become a trigger. Managing emotions well is to protect the body's "immune center".

Written at the end: Don't take "sneezes" as a trivial matter!
Rhinitis is not a cold. Behind it is a physical signal of "immune disorder". We can't just stare at how much snot is running in the nose, but also think about why the body has a "runny nose"?
A sneeze may be accidental, but repeated rhinitis means that there is something wrong with the body's defense system. At this time, instead of repeatedly "treating the nose for a headache", it is better to deeply "reconcile" the immune system.
Stop suppressing the symptoms of rhinitis and try to listen to what your body wants to say. You may find that what really needs to be adjusted is never the nose, but the entire lifestyle and health system.
Tips at the end of the article: Although rhinitis is a small problem, it is a big warning. There are more than 200 million rhinitis patients in the country. It is time to start from the "root cause" and give the immune system a chance to "re-employ". The nose is just an outlet, and health is the answer!
